Subject: knitting hints

Comment: I grew up in England and learned to knit when I was four (in a family of great knitters). During WW11 I knitted scarves and hats for soldiers. I still love knitting -everything from scarves to lace, I just found this web site and am delighted to find great ideas and hints that I didn't know about. Keep up the good work. MMC I have bookmarked this site.

Subject: Knitting @ 13

Comment: Well, being 13 and able to knit, is considered strange and for 'grannies.' so offensive!!!! I like to tell them that they are full of baloney and some of my guy friends knit. Also, i keep in mind, to tell the guys that knitting guilds were only for men!!!

Subject: Antonia's marginal note on crochet

Comment: Before you totally write off learning to crochet, try YouTube.com If you key in www.youtube.com and search under 'crochet' there are some videos including a stop-start animation one.

I haven't road tested any of the crochet videos but have found some of Cat Bordhi's knitting instruction vidoes helpful. it seems to make a difference when one can actually see the stitches being made, and hear the instructions at the same time.

I am first and foremost a knitter, but do use crochet for edgings etc.

At the moment I am struggling with the wrap & turn heel for toe-up socks. So far I have mis-read 2 different sets of instructions. I need to re-visit YouTube as soon as I have a moment.........

Subject: My Marginal Note

Comment: My marginal note in crochet:- Whatever way I try to teach myself...I feel it's a dead end. I've accepted my limitation. I'm a personable knitter though.

Subject: New knitter

Comment: I am a long time crocheter (almost 30 years) that has struggled to learn to knit. I think after 3 different people have tried over the years, I am finally teaching myself from a book. (I love to read!) It looks like it may stick this time. Thank you for all your encouraging words about loving to knit. I can't wait to feel confident enough to teach my 5 year old daughter, she just started learning to crochet 3 months ago. She has decided she loves making necklaces and bracelets for her friends. Just wait, soon she'll be knitting clothes for all her babydolls.

Subject: N00bie @ Knitting

Comment: Wow, reading all of these comments with 12 and 13 yr olds designing their own sweater patterns makes me feel really old (at 16!) and REALLY new to knitting. I started knitting just a few months ago when my Girl Scout troop decided to knit lap blankets for wheelchair patients at a friend's hospital. (Yes, I know, I'm still in Girl Scouts...but trust me, it's NOT as dorky as it sounds!) Now I'm planning what I want to knit over the upcoming Spring Break, and the lists of all the knitting patterns are very helpful! I have my eye on either a cell phone or iPod cozy...wish me luck!

Subject: updating in the round-ha

Comment: Hi Mrs. Mousie here, Just wanted to update my knitting. The other day I went to a knitting convention. It was great!! I didn't realize how many knitters were out there! When I was there, I brought some yarn and cute little circular knitting needles, I'm working on my first "tubular purse" (working in the round this time) I realy am starting to like tea also! Tea and knitting with my mice, perfect way to rid anxiety!
