Subject: Yarn Holder

Comment: Recently I was in need of a holder for my yarn. Sitting there was an empty upright box of Diet Coke. Since the yarn was standing up I inserted it into the carton and had myself a wonderful, easy method of holding my yarn. Continued my knitting and easily pulled the yarn from the box. Didn't need to buy the fancy style yarn holder. It carries easily wherever I go.

Subject: on-screen patterns

Comment: When using a pattern from a document on your computer screen, interruptions are no problem if you put a bullet by the next starting point and you can also colorize that line of text.

Subject: Paperless patterns

Comment: I find a lot of patterns online, and have a bookmark folder for the patterns I run across online. I label each one with the needle size, the pattern name and any distinguishing characteristics (like ribbing or lace). When I want to use the pattern, I go to the webpage and use my computer's built in post-it's to keep my place in the pattern. I only print out the ones I need to take out of the house.

Subject: Stitch holders

Comment: If you've ever had braces and had to wear the little rubber bands, the leftover elastics you never used work great as stitch holders.

Subject: Counting rows

Comment: To keep a track of my rows and patterns I use the stitchminder app for the iPhone. It's easy to use and free to download. Easy to edit and add a completed row just by tapping the screen :-)

Subject: Putting on buttons

Comment: im 12 and i love to knit!
if you are doing a project that involves sewing on a button and find sewing on a button a major pain, what i do is string the button beforehand and then knit it into the spot where you would sew it. HAPPY KNITTING

Subject: cable stitch

Comment: if you dont like or dont have a cable needle just get a hair grip bend it and use that

Subject: little markers

Comment: Searching for tiny stitch markers I hit upon using an ordinary drinking straw. Snip. Just cut little slices of the straw as thin as you can make them with your kitchen shears. I like the bright red ones from restaurants the best.

Subject: buttonband

Comment: when binding off i always bind off with the largest needle my project calls for. the buttonband that has no holes i bind off on the wrong side purlwise. the hole side i bind off knitwise. it truly makes a beautiful finish.

Subject: bind off

Comment: knit the first st. then K2tog, pull the first st knit over the k2tog st, then k2tog, pull the one sts left over the k2tog st, cont in this manner till all sts have been bound off...it gives a nice elastic stretch to the bind off.
